Program description
Applicants to Fellowship training are required to submit proof of advanced specialist certification if selected. Training as a clinical fellow is not accredited and cannot be used as residency training toward certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or American Board Certification. Full two-year ACHD Fellowships are usually offered and the training program can be customized to meet the individual career goals. The Fellows will work with a highly experienced and knowledgeable clinical and research faculty with expertise in epidemiology, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, high risk pregnancy, psychology, diagnostic imaging, etc. The close, integrated collaboration with the pediatric cardiologists at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto has been a long tradition. There is the option of a Joint Fellowship program between our centre and the Mayo Clinic (Program Director: Carole Warnes, MD) or the Royal Brompton Hospital (Program Director: Michael Gatzoulis, MD). The fellow spends one year at each site. Both institutions have a long-standing tradition of practicing congenital heart disease. There are 4 positions as clinical/research fellows and one position as an interventional fellow available per year.
Research
Clinical outcome, interventional techniques, pulmonary arterial hypertension, high risk pregnancy, clinical psychology, long-term outcome, arrhythmias, cyanotic congenital heart disease and diagnostic imaging/new diagnostic modalities in congenital heart disease.
